Principal Narrative Systems Designer

Aspyr is seeking a Principal Narrative Systems Designer to design and execute upon cinematic, narrative, and world-building systems and content for an upcoming AAA Role-Playing Game. 


In this role, you will work closely with the Lead Designer, Level Designers, and Cinematic Artists to ensure that the game's story, world, and narrative are presented to the Player in the most compelling ways possible. 


 The ideal candidate will have proven experience in cinematography, world-building, and narrative content execution. 


Job Description:

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Lead Designer and Cinematic Artists to create engaging cinematic content

  • Design, document, and work with Engineers to create narrative content delivery systems and tools

  • Work with Environment Artists and Level Designers to add supplementary narrative and ambient world-building to environments

  • Own the framework and systems necessary for narrative presentation to the Player (conversations, stages, narrative popups, etc)

  • Investigate, communicate, and work to resolve emergent narrative issues regarding cameras, dialogue branching, localization, etc

  • Serve as a liaison between Writing, Art, and Design departments



Required Skills:

  • 5+ years game development experience in a Design role

  • At least 1 shipped title in a Cinematic or Narrative Design Role

  • Extensive knowledge of game narrative structures, particularly branching RPG conversations and cinematics

  • Excellent grasp of cinematography and visual storytelling

  • Knowledge of current industry trends and technology with regards to cinematics and story presentation

  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to feedback, design, and scope changes throughout development



Extra Credit

  • Experience with Unreal Engine

  • Experience with scripting or visual scripting languages (Blueprints, C#, Lua, etc)

  • Passion for storytelling and narrative across a variety of media

  • Technical writing and documentation skills

  • Love of role-playing games
